Forum:Even more technical stuff from PL! (part 3)
I don't think anyone reads this stuff anymore, looks like UnMeta is now basically a drama forum or some crap like this.
Anyway, for those of you that give a damn about your projects, welcome to the third update on what the heck are the Polish up to. You can find the previous episodes here and here. It's going to be a bit more condensed this time, frankly I don't have the time for a full write-up, so if you have any questions come directly to me.
We treat stuff pretty seriously and through the use of statistics and science we came to the conclusion that our link system is shite. We made tools to fix that. We now know what really links here (navboxes don't count) and can track down underlinked pages. More info here, but it may be outdated a bit.
Bonus: tracking undesired redlinks in templates and lists. Sweet.
Svetovid AKA Link creator
Now this is real shit. A tool for semi-automatic link creation that takes grammar into account. Again, more about that on mediawiki.org.
To hell with DPL!
…said someone wise and they were abso-effin-lutely right. DPL is bad. One can bring down an entire wiki farm with this crap, if it doesn't have fancy security in place. I think DPL is beyond fixable, so we switched entirely to SemanticMediaWiki, that we use for other things now as well. It works.
Rollback with a reason
That's an update for the tool mentioned in the previous post, we gave it a new interface and it should be more stable now. More info here.
The star rating thing got a new functionality that lets you define contests in which users can rate pages or files. We've tested this, works great. More info here.
As part of our ongoing effort to create a repository for free humour imagery, we are reworking our image description system to be machine-readable, queryable, extensible and awesome. We made some progress on the Information template and we are continuously making more fields semantic (i.e. corresponding to semantic values). We also want to integrate this heavily with Commons and Wikidata.
That is a small one. It lets you preload page contents on new pages. That's mostly useful for categorizing them consistently or enforcing some kind of format (like UnNews).
That's the most important stuff. We're working on more craziness! :D
- Okay, for the moment. We are having a lot of problems with the Japanese uncy that imported their dramas here. Even though I warned Carlb about these problems, he has not responded and I worry if he has contracted coronavirus. haha Right now I'm a little busy until midnight (Rio de Janeiro time zone) I send the link to this topic by email.
